It's easy to make homemade treats for your birds...a little bit sticky and messy...but easy.

Watching Lovebirds on You Tube
Pip's Toy Box
How to keep a lovebird busy when you're not around to play with him??? Here's an easy idea: one) clear plastic box(I got mine in the stationary section of the $ store(3/1$), two) little plastic lids from juice bottles(free) washed out, Three) nutiberries, seed, a peanut, four) various little toys, five)non toxic dyed craft sticks, six) layer items in the box placing edibles under and between other items. The birds see them and then figure out how to get to them. This ,of course, works for other birds too. Just make sure that the items are size appropriate.

Jazz the King of the Parrotlets
Nobody's going to notice me here!
Jazz is the first parrotlet we ever saw - and once we did he had to come and live with us. It was love at first sight. Now there are many parrotlets around. Back then there weren't. So whenever we had a rare sighting of parrotlets we always thought that they were so small-must be sick or something. We have since come to realize that Jazz is just a really big boy. We aren't sure why...he just is.
He says "pretty bird" and "who's a pretty bird?" and some other human words that are too fuzzy to understand. He also makes kissy sounds if I say "kisses". I've tried over the almost eight years to get him to say more words but-he won't =O)
Baby Finches
Here's Dad in the nest a couple of weeks ago. You can see a few tiny pink heads. We're still not sure if there are five or six as they still blend together . There are definately dark ones and at least one lighter pied like Dad and maybe an albino one like mom...further back in the nest. They are very close to fledging now so I won't try to take any more pictures until they are out. I wouldn't want to startle them out before they are ready or they could get hurt.

Teenie Weenies
We have teeny weenie finches in the nest. They are Bengalese finches ( also known as Society finches). I suspect the oldest is about a week or so old. What a lovely surprise. I guess they finally decided to take this thing seriously...many dud or ignored eggs.
They may be tiny but I can hear their hungry little cries from the next room. Mom, and the two Dads -modern family :o)- are doing a good job so far with the feeding.
The Gouldians are curious and interested. They stand on top of the nest but can't get too close as there is a parent in the nest at all times. I tried to get pics but would have to be too intrusive so I'll wait and try again when they are a little further along...so exciting!
