Happy Easter

Spring has arrived and I am thrilled to announce the arrival of baby English Budgies!!

I've had all four English Budgie pairs on eggs this past month. That's very exciting for me.  Two of the pairs are first time egg layers. Their first clutch of eggs did not hatch...but that's OK. It's perfectly normal for birds to lay a practice clutch or even a few practice clutches.  The third pair-Hedwig and Winston are not first time egg layers but it's been well over a year since thier last babies. They have decided to try again so we'll see.... The fourth pair are Mia and Mickey. They had a clutch at Christmas time and now have four little chicks - blue Easter chicks haha.  After that I'll take their nest box away and they won't get it back until fall-for maybe a Christmas clutch.

Emm and Dee-my lovebird parents are wanting to have a clutch too.  They've been ripping up a paper storm and feeding each other. They are very sweet and they love each other very much.  I'm trying to hold them off a little - maybe until mid summer to give them their nest box.  I've found it to be quite difficult to place baby lovebirds in the summer time.  People are on holiday etc. Last summer I had nine baby lovebirds and only sold three of them at the beginning of the summer.  That meant that I had six baby lovebirds- which is approximately equal to a barrel full of monkeys-  to play with and keep tame over the summer-as well as my pet birds to give attention to. I end up getting a little attached to them too when I've had them that long and as my husband keeps reminding me "WE CAN'T KEEP THEM ALL!"

I've been experimenting on my homemade birdie treats lately.  I'm trying to come up with a shape that doesn't fall apart - meaning fall on the floor-after the birds take a few bites. Cup cake papers helped a little but that idea still needs tweaking.  I'm adding a mixture of herbs which I've researched to give the bird more nutrition which means more health and energy and nice strong babies.
