Four beautiful babies. What a difference in size between the oldest and youngest(at the bottom of the photo).
Three babies have arrived. Notice how the oldest on is "hugging" smaller ones.

17 Day Old Baby Budgie

Well, we have only one baby budgie at present. Mama (Winnie) laid five eggs and sat tight on them for a couple of weeks and then one day I noticed her sitting outside of the nest for what seemed a long time. I felt the eggs and they did not feel as warm as they should. I'm not sure why she left them for so long and I thought that surely they would not hatch. To my delight right on schedule egg # 1 did hatch! Sadly he was the only one. I guess that the others got cooled down too much.
On the bright side(always look at the bright side) this little one was very well cared for by mama and papa birds. He is very healthy and bright, Of course he loves to be held, cuddled, and loved-easy to do as he is so sweet.

Updates

Hi everyone. I'm still alive and haven't fallen off the planet!

It's been quite a while since I posted -but I'm still here-and so are the birds. It's been a difficult few months dealing with some serious health issues but I'm happy to say that I'm about 80% better and very much looking forward to the next season of baby birds. (Any prayers and/or good vibes would be greatly appreciated). So...last winter we had no baby birds here :(...but  this fall we surely will.

I have four pairs of budgies who will get their nest boxes in a couple of weeks and if all goes well there will be the chirping of baby birdies by early fall.

My lovebirds Emmie and Dee really want to be parents again too but I'm still thinking about that. I absolutely love lovebirds. I absolutely love raising the babies and fall in love with each and every one of them. The problem is when it comes time to find their new homes it is sometimes difficult. The best case scenario is when someone tells me that they've had lovebirds for years or that they just lost their lovebird which they loved dearly. Then I know it will be good for my babies. That's not always the way it goes though. Too often people are not familiar with the personality or behaviour of lovebirds(lovebird owners know exactly what I mean here). When they have problems after adoption of their new baby then it's sad for me. If you know what to expect from a lovebird then you won't do things that create issues and you won't have to try and "fix" your relationship  when you have lost your bird's trust in you. I personally have two tame lovebirds that I love to bits. They are super affectionate and cuddly and I am so happy to have them. I did do lots of research and video watching before acquiring my first pair as I had heard some rather nasty things about lovebirds. The more videos I watched the more  enamoured I was with these awesome birds. My life is enriched by their presence. So, I'm still not sure if Emm and Dee will get their nest box any time soon. They are fantastic parents though :)

The budgie pairs I have are: Parsley and Basil (normal/standard green)
Mia and Malcom( powder blue opaline and green/grey yellow face)(Sadly we lost Mickey this past winter so Mia was lonely and now has a new partner that she really likes-finally)
Winston and Whinnie (turquoise yellow face English and powder blue opaline normal/standard)
Bella and Benny( violet blue English and turquoise yellow face English/standard cross)(My babies -
                              Angel(adopted)
both hatched here (:>}=)                       Benny

                                              Bella (blue)

I'm so very excited and looking forward to hand feeding baby birds. I've missed it so much!!!!!!!!!!!

Baby Lovies Love Wheat Grass

These little sweeties are lovin' the wheat grass. It takes about three days or so to get it to this length. It's actually one of the easiest things to sprout. You just use wheat berries. Next time I'm not going to do it in a jar as it becomes very "thicket" like and difficult to get out. I'm going to try using a flatter container so that the grass will grow straight up.
All of my birds-no exceptions- love this stuff. When I put a clump in the budgie cages they go crazy for it (:>}=

Happy New Year

Wow, 2013

It's been a while since I posted.  Life is great here with the birds. The holidays were super busy. I have a large(people) family as well as a large birdie family.  We had lots of visitors to see us and to some to see the birds. Some babies have been adopted and I have some budgie and lovebird babies ready for new homes.
I'm very excited about the upcoming year. I have some great ideas for bird food-very healthy bird food -and will be looking into developing those.
I'm also super excited about my budgies-training ideas that is.
I found out how trainable they actually are when I had a larger number of them to feed than usual.  I was able to teach them to sit in a row on a perch and wait their turn to be fed. Now, if you've ever seen hand fed budgies waiting for their feeding you'll know how chaotic it can be. Before they are able to fly it's not tooooo crazy but once they can...oh boy. Let's just say that their table manners leave much to be desired. Each one wants to be fed first, and lots. They will try to jump on the syringe, my hand, each other...it's very funny. So when I got them to sit nicely and patiently wait for their turn it was wonderful. It only took a couple of feeding times for them to catch on... at just a little over a month old!  A few of them started to come out of their cage and fly directly to the perch  and wait. They are awesome.

Now that the holidays are over and we are back on track . I'll be looking for forever homes for these fellows. I have Two English/standard cross budgies, one full English budgie, two green normal/standard  budgies and three lovely peach-faced lovebirds.  Three budgies and one lovie have been adopted already.

I'll also be putting up more videos on my You Tube channel(heartsongaviary) in the near future. I really enjoy that.
