Update

Just a little update...all birds are doing great. The parrotlets are coming along nicely. i still have some baby lovebirds for sale. This summer has been a series of unpredictable things. The latest was my eight hour visit to emergency a couple of days ago....not fun. It seems that I have a kidney stone -ouch ouch ouch! I have some good pain meds and should be OK soon... hopefully.
A big thank you to my son Quinn who gave the baby parrotlets their late night feed on Sunday when I wasn't here to do so. Luckily my sons have watched me feed the babies many times. Quinn used a spoon - not a syringe. It's much safer that way. It's a good idea to instruct a back-up feeder for your babies in case of emergency.

I'll update with more pictures and stories as soon as I'm back to normal (:>}=

Oxyfresh -Cleansing Gele

This is a really great product. It's good for really cleaning bird environment and toys, dishes etc. It kills viruses and bacteria and at the same time it is safe for the feathered friends. The bottle lasts a looooong time as it is diluted with water when used.

Kirby is watching me as I freshen up a cage.

Big Day Tomorrow

I'm so excited. Tomorrow is the day that I start hand feeding the new baby parrotlets. There are three of them. These are my first parrotlet babies - although I've had a pet parrotlet for eight years. They look very different to the lovebird and budgie babies...almost like little aliens =o]

It's time to get everything ready...scale to weigh them with, heating pad, syringes, bedding, brooder, paper towels galore and fomula. I've been making my own formula for recent clutches and it's been working very well. We had no slow crop whatsoever. This new formula is very easily digested which is much better for the birds. There's nothing sitting in the crop going sour. It means that the feedings have to be more frequent -especially at first. That's OK because I enjoy handfeeding baby birds very much. It also means that I have to be organized and think ahead as I cannot leave the house for more than three hours at a time for the first few weeks of handfeeding. Once you start the process you have to be commited to seeing it through. There cannot be any late or missed feedings . The little guys are quite helpless and dependant. Once the weening process begins then the formula feeding can get stretched a little further apart and some solids can be left in the brooder. It's a very satisfying experience watching the progress and finally having a full grown fully weaned baby.

Pip's Jolly Ball

I've had a lot of interest in Pip's Jolly Ball and where to get it. People tell me that they can't find it in pet stores. I got mine on line at a really great website. I purchased many things from them and was very satisfied with everything-including the service. To get the ball go here : www.oisellerielavoliere.com Go to the playgym/perch section and click on Birdhouse.
